The sermon on Sunday, July 26, 2026, will be from Exodus 12:1-51- The Lord’s Supper: Old Testament Foundations. “A sacrament is a holy ordinance instituted by Christ in his church, …” – Westminster Larger Catechism #162
Roman Catholics (RC) and Protestants differ greatly regarding the number of sacraments in the Christian Church. Roman Catholics teach that there are seven sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation, the Mass, Confession, Last Rites, Holy Orders, and Marriage). Protestants in the Presbyterian and Reformed tradition (P&R) teach that there are only two (Baptism and the Lord’s Supper). P&R ministers teach that these ordinances are “holy” and they also teach that these sacraments are “instituted by Christ.” They are visible signs that impart invisible, spiritual grace when attended by the work of the Holy Spirit.
