This Sunday the sermon is from 1 Thessalonians 1:1-3 – “Thanks Be to God for the Thessalonians”.  “We give thanks to God always for all of you …” – 1 Thessalonians 1:2

Paul’s thanksgiving for the Thessalonian church was God-centered. He gave thanks to God for the existence of this church. Read Acts 17:1-9. The early Thessalonian believers faced great persecution for their new-found faith from a hostile culture. Only God by omnipotent power could establish and grow a congregation in these conditions. The gospel is still the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16). He still establishes and sustains His Church in difficult environments.

This Sunday the sermon is from Psalm 139 – “Searched and Known by God”.  “How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!” – Psalm 139:17

The Lord knows us thoroughly and intimately. Psalm 139 teaches us this truth. He is omniscient (Vss. 2-6); He is omnipresent (Vss. 7-12); and He is omnipotent (Vss. 13-16). He knows all things; He is present everywhere; and He can do all things. We cannot run from Him and we cannot hide from Him. Doing so is a fool’s errand. If you are running from God, turn toward Him today. Confess your sin and your need for salvation. He forgives any and all who come to Him through Christ His only Son. (John 6:37)

This Sunday the sermon is from Ephesians 2:1-10 – “The Grace Connection”.  “And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked …” – Ephesians 2:1

What do you believe about mankind’s spiritual condition? Do you believe that men and women are ‘okay’ spiritually? Do you believe that man is basically good? Or do you believe that men and women are ‘sick’ spiritually? Do you believe that man is ‘bad’ spiritually, but possesses ‘free will’ to believe the Gospel? Or do you believe that men and women are ‘dead’ spiritually? Do you believe that man is unable to save himself due to his sinful condition? What does Ephesians 2:1-3 teach? And what is the answer for our condition? (See Ephesians 2:4-10)

This Sunday the sermon is from Luke 24:13-35 – “Disciples of the Burning Heart”. “”Did not our hearts burn within us…?” – Luke 24:32

Does your heart ever “burn within you” as a Bible preacher preaches or a Bible teacher teaches? The disciples on the road to Emmaus described their experience with this colorful language. The resurrected Christ appeared and taught them the entire Old Testament in one session (Luke 24:25-27). John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church, described his conversion experience in similar words. He said, “My heart was strangely warmed.” Has your heart ever been strangely warmed? Has Christ by his Spirit taught you the Scriptures?

This Sunday the sermon is from Titus 1:5-9 – “Orderly Churches in a Disorderly World”. “This is why I left you in Crete …” – Titus 1:5

Was there any hope for the inhabitants of the island of Crete? A Cretan prophet had said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” Well, there was hope in the Gospel. By God’s grace, sinners had been transformed and a church had been planted on Crete. Now it needed strong leadership. Likewise, we need churches with strong leaders today in America. In many ways, modern American culture rivals the 1st Century Cretans. But God’s grace is greater than the sins of a nation. God will use strong churches with strong leaders to build His Church.

This Sunday the sermon is from Psalm 150 – ” A Concluding Psalm of Praise”.  “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!” – Psalm 150:6

Psalm 150 concludes the Old Testament Psalter and it concludes this book in a fitting way. The psalmist commands us 13 times in 6 verses to “Praise the Lord!” We are to praise Him in His sanctuary, in His mighty heavens, for His mighty deeds and according to His excellent greatness. We are to employ musical instruments in this joyful endeavor. We will obey these commands when we see who God is and how He has accomplished our salvation in Christ.

This Sunday the sermon is from Psalm 145 – ” Behold our God”. “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.” – Psalm 145:3

Do you know, really know, who God is? If not, Psalm 145 is a good place to begin. The psalmist discusses who God is. He mentions some of the key attributes of God. He is seeking to instill in us a proper fear of God. And he is providing incentives for us to come to Him by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. God is indeed great but He is also kind to all who come to Him through Christ.

This Sunday the sermon is from Psalm 136 – “Giving Thanks for God’s Love”. “… for his steadfast love endures forever.” – Psalm 136:1

According to 1 John 4, verse 8, “God is love.” And according to Psalm 136, His love is steadfast. In fact, it is so steadfast that it endures forever. Do you believe this? The psalmist wants us to ponder this great truth because he repeats it 26 times in 26 verses. Every verse proclaims the good news, “his steadfast love endures forever.” We need this reminder in difficult days. Jesus went to the Cross in order to demonstrate God’s steadfast love toward His people. (Romans 5:8)
