I heard an old preacher say one time, “We are not saved by law keeping, but we are saved unto law keeping.” We are not saved by our obedience to the 10 Commandments. We are saved by God’s grace through faith apart from any works we perform (Ephesians 2:8-9). But, in the new birth, God gives his people a new heart – he removes “the heart of stone” and replaces it with a “heart of flesh.” He causes his people to walk in his statutes and obey his rules (Ezekiel 36:26-27). We die to sin and we begin to delight in the law of God (Romans 7:22).
