Charles E. (Chuck) Swann (September 1975 – December 1978)

Charles E. Swann was born on July 1, 1932 in Meridian, Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 – 1952 and, following his service, married Janell Dalton of Meridian in 1953.

Dr. Swann graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1955, having earned a Bachelor of Science in journalism. After ten years in business, and with four children, he entered Columbia Theological Seminary in 1965 and graduated in 1968 with a Master of Divinity degree. He continued his studies at Columbia, earning a doctorate in Sacred Theology (S.T.D.) in 1977.

Dr. Swann served as pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Bainbridge, Georgia, from 1968 – 1970. He then served the Presbyterian Church (United States) denomination as Director of Communications Training, based at the PCUS headquarters in Atlanta, from 1970 – 1974. In 1974 he became a bi-vocational Pastor, working as vice president of GSA, Inc., Memphis, Tennessee, and supplying churches in the Memphis area. Dr. Swann became Stated Supply Pastor of Hickory Withe and Oakland Presbyterian Churches during this time, serving until the end of 1978. On January 1, 1979, he began his service at Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, as Associate Professor for Communications as well as Manager of the National Public Radio station then owned by the seminary. He became vice president of Union Seminary in 1981.

When grandchildren (totaling six) were born in Georgia starting in 1986, the Swanns moved back to the Atlanta area, and Dr. Swann became a bi-voctional Pastor again, working as a magazine editor and supplying churches. He became Stated Supply Pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church, Canton, Georgia, in 1989. Dr. Swann retired from public ministry on July 1, 1998, his 66th birthday. On January 1, 2007, he was called out of retirement to serve again as Stated Supply Pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church, a capacity which he continues to serve today.

Dr. Swann and his wife now live in Waleska, Georgia.
