Douglas Barcroft (February 2010 – present)
Our current Senior Pastor is Doug Barcroft. Doug is a native Memphian. He graduated from Kingsbury High School in 1976. He holds Bachelor and Master degrees in nursing from the University of Tennessee College of Nursing. He also earned his Master of Divinity degree from the Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. From 1984 to 1994, he served as pastor for three different Southern Baptist churches in the Mid-South. In October of 2000 after receiving a call to the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Cordova, Tennessee, he transferred his ministerial credentials to the Presbyterian Church in America. He served St. Andrews as an associate pastor from 2000 to 2008. Hickory Withe Church called him in February 2010 to serve alongside of Ed Eubanks, Jr. as an associate pastor. And, in the Fall of 2011, when Ed was called to the Dove Mountain Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona, the congregation at Hickory Withe called him as their new senior pastor. For most of his ministry, Doug has worked bivocationally as a nurse practitioner. But, currently, he serves full-time as the pastor of Hickory Withe.
Doug was raised in the Macon Road Presbyterian Church in Memphis, Tennessee. He came to faith in Christ during his junior year of college through the ministry of Central Baptist Church in Martin, Tennessee. He met Lynn Hosse in the Fall of 1979 at the University of Tennessee at Martin and they were married in August of 1981. Lynn and Doug have three children – Benjamin Douglas, Sarah Grace, and Charley Kate. Lynn co-owns a business in Memphis with her sister, Susan Tanner. The name of the business is “Pink Ribbons” and they provide services to women fighting breast cancer. Benjamin currently resides in Charleston, South Carolina and is married to Shanta Smith. He is employed as an aircraft mechanic with Boeing. Sarah Grace married Peter Castillo in August of 2014. The Lord blessed Sarah and Peter with their first child, Sophie Lynn, on September 21st, 2015. Charley Kate attends Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. She is also an accomplished violinist and is a member of the Union University Orchestra. When not working or spending time with his family, Doug enjoys exercising, doing yard-work, reading and matching wits with mature whitetail bucks and elusive turkey gobblers.
Nehemiah 8:8 and Acts 20:28 serve as foundational verses in Doug’s understanding of gospel ministry. The passage from Nehemiah states, “They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was being read.” During sermons and teaching sessions, Doug reads from Scripture and tries to make its meaning clear to the people of God. And, the passage from Acts says, “Be shepherds of the church of God…” Doug believes that God has called him to shepherd – to feed and care for – God’s people. He realizes that he bears “treasure in jars of clay” (II Corinthians 4:7). Yet, he rejoices that the weakness and imperfection he brings to the ministerial task goes only to prove that “…the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
